Neighborhood (Frank Messa)

Crush
by D. K. Sterling

Half an hour ago
and I can still taste you--
your latte breath
against my lips

in sanctuary
of the apartment
which was cold
til we made love

(that damn radiator
working on and off...)

we curled up close
(after a mango scented bath)
all noise of the street
forgotten,
as we moved to the beat
of a different drummer.

It was almost nirvana
(yes, we came so close)
except for the fact
we were over too soon,
as time would see fit
to launch an invasion...

(where did those hours go?
Back to work.)

As I find myself
on a sidewalk
thick with strangers,
my absentee attention span
waivers off the clock...

and all of me
(except my body)
races back to you,
back into nirvana...

almost

go back
